So I didn't make it to round two of the fangs_fur_fey hook contest (I was #131 if anyone's keeping track). I did get some very good feedback, including a comment that's come up before: worldbuilding. I decided to try for the fangs_fur_fey hook contest. If nothing else, it's a good exercise. Best of all, crit group is tomorrow so we can go over it. One of the advantages crit groups have over writing classes is if you show up with nothing but a query letter or synopsis, that counts as having done work.

Wow. Unless my prof comes back with some changes to the paper, I'm done with schoolwork until next summer! Now to buckle down and actually get some writing done! It feels so weird!

It looks like I'm still on track for October 2005 graduation. I wonder how I get my diploma......

It's fall, which means the conference and various book-related events have started! Went to the National Book Fair this past weekend. Got to see a friend from Hollins too, which is always a bonus, even though we didn't have the crowd we'd had in previous years ( Read more... )

The thesis is done! I mailed the signature sheets to my second adviser this afternoon, did all the changes he suggested this evening, and now it's done! Whoohoo!

I finally got my thesis off to my advisor! Hopefully she will have very few corrections to it and I can finish it in time to graduate in October. I would have loved to finish it this spring, but I want it to be done well ( Read more... )

But well worth the wait. The Stone Chain is now winging its way to the Ursula Nordstrom Fiction Contest. I had a rather nerve-wracking morning when I discovered that my printer was not printing every word on the page! I think I may have a bead on how to proceed with the first chapter. It puts a little more action in as well, which is good. I had a bit too much conversation and explanation. I'm especially proud because I didn't feel well earlier in the evening, but I decided I could manage a line. I ended up with half a page!
